Hi,
When writing correct page titles you should keep in mind Google is only going to index 70 characters. It is ok to write more than 70 but anything past 70 (with spaces) will have no relevancy to Gooigle; i.e. not help you with your search engine rankings.
- My first suggestion is to keep the page titles at or under 70 characters with spaces.
You technically don't need to
ADD meta-descriptions & meta-keywords to each page of your website. Back in 2000 Meta-Keywords were important, but in March of 2009 meta-keywords are not worth your time writing because search engines value you them very little & usually not at all.
Meta-Descriptions have become the same way. Search engines value them very little if not at all when it comes to your rankings. They are very important because search engines display your Meta-Descriptions in search results.
But what happens if you do not add them? Search engines like Google will automatically generate Meta-Keywords from the content on your web page! Yes, that means you can leave it blank and Google will write them for you.
A well written web page usually produces great Meta-Descriptions on its own. My suggestion is to
- Leave ALL Meta-Descriptions blank for the time being
- Wait until Google re-indexes (i.e. visits your website again, downloads your new meta-data & content, and indexes or adds your web pages to their servers).
- Check to see if you like the auto-generated Meta-Descriptions in Google
- If you want them changed then go back and write your own Meta-Descriptions.
I say "
add" because it is important to write them down for your organization. Out of your entire Meta Data you did a great job generating keyword phrases people are looking for:
